Ben Kane, from Going Loud Studios, has put up a bit of a “year in review” post-mortem piece on his blog that gives a pretty good indication of how things went. All in all, I would say not bad, but I still hope he can find success on other platforms, specifically for DLC Quest which, for those that didn’t know, was one of my favorite games of 2011. Also I reviewed it favorably.
In any case, Ben posted some hard numbers to go with some analysis. Here they are (for 2011):
- DLC Quest – 19501 sales
- Lair of the Evildoer – 2877 sales
- Zombie Accountant – 642 sales
The first two being XBLIG games released in 2011. Zombie Accountant being a WP7 game as well as XBLIG.
All in all though it would appear that Ben’s analysis paints a rather grim picture of the Windows Phone 7 and XBLIG marketplaces as both still struggle to gain traction for their developers. DLC Quest, which was a widely discussed game and fairly popular amongst the media still didn’t go gangbusters, although it’s probably in the top percentile for XBLIG titles.
